Tight at the top

The first race of the Sunday Easter Series was a long one in a shifty strong but up and down breeze with the wind oscillating unpredictably and repeatedly from East to South and back again. This provided some great gains for different boats at various times in the race. The course was F V F N F N F with an agreement up front that Div 3 boats only need to do 2 laps with their 2nd lap time added onto their time again. Another good turnout from both yachts and crew.

Racing for over two hours (a little longer than desirable and bending/breaking the time extension rule !) The top 2 (Jetstream and short handed Shoki) were in the end separated by less than 3 secs on corrected time followed closely by Dram. These three had some tight on the water racing, particularly Dram and Jetstream. Hardslog and Twenty Free both had spinnaker problems at the leeward mark which meant they weren’t able to compete with the front three. Auberge and Bounty Hunter continued their battle with some close racing. Eastlander and Salmon who didn’t have working trackers took their own times for the finish. In the end some mathematics was required to estimate a time for Salmon’s lap 2 and hence the time to be added.
